An open coastal out-and-back
Marine Drive gives Colombo runners a coastal alternative to park loops. Use the pavement beside the road and choose a familiar section rather than treating the entire corridor as a continuous running track.
A simple way to explore
Start at a clear street junction, follow a usable pavement section and return the same way. Turn back where the pavement ends or a crossing does not suit your outing.
What to look out for
- Pause at side roads and vehicle entrances.
- Keep away from railway tracks and use designated crossings.
- Expect sun, sea breeze and little shade along open sections.
Facilities and access
Shops and cafés are available in the surrounding neighbourhoods; plan water and toilet stops rather than assuming seafront facilities. An active road corridor, not a closed running course. Check pavement continuity, crossings and any works before choosing your section.
